BRODHEAD - An expired medication collection is set from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21 in the Brodhead Police Department parking lot, 1100 West 3rd Ave.
All medication, including prescription and over-the-counter, will be accepted. There is no charge.
Individual names on any prescriptions may be blocked out, but medications need to remain in original packages and the name of the medication cannot be covered up or removed.
Dumping old medication down the drain can pollute the water supply. Old medications can also lose potency or change consistency over time, making them less effective.
In addition, medication left lying around can pose a danger to children or pets.
The medication collection is organized by Clarissa Rueckert for her senior project, a requirement for graduation at Brodhead High School. Medication will be properly disposed of by Doug Pinnow of Pinnow Pharmacy.
A representative from the Brodhead Police Department will be available throughout the collection.
