MONROE - Who knew math and science could be so much fun?

The audience will be amazed, mesmerized and entertained Thursday at 7 p.m. when Marvel Comics illustrator Jerry DeCaire brings his artistic talents to the Monroe Arts Center with his presentation "Science of the Superhero." MAC is located at 1315 11th St.

Science of the Superhero is an engaging presentation where popular superheros such as Thor, X-Men, Iron Man, and The Phantom come to life as Jerry DeCaire's live hand-drawn demonstrations are projected onto a large screen. He will discuss how geometric shapes, ratios and fractions of common math merge with science and art, laying the foundation for creating comic superheroes.

DeCaire will address the "3-P's" of anatomical draftsmanship: perspective, proportion and physique, as well as provide commentary on the history of comics and other nuances of comic art.

DeCaire acquired his Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University with honors and has studied education, art and the life sciences. He has professionally illustrated some of the world's most prolific superheroes for Marvel Entertainment including Avenger's Hawkeye, Deadpool, Conan the Barbarian and The Punisher.

He has also worked for smaller independent companies and has corroborated on such mythic giants as the Green Hornet and Kato, Cisco Kid, and Werewolf and Vampire Gothic Tales.
