FREEPORT - A possible attempted child abduction was reported Sunday evening just south of the state line in Cedarville, and the Stephenson County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect.

The incident happened at about 9:15 p.m. at the Mobil gas station in Cedarville at 10 S. Stephenson St., according to the sheriff's office.

Surveillance video shows the suspect is a white man in his 30s, 40s or 50s wearing a white or light gray sweatshirt. Store employees told police he attempted to get a 13-year-old boy to come out to his truck with him, but they stopped this from happening.

The suspect's truck is described as a smaller white pickup truck with a silver tool box in the back.

The sheriff's office is seeking to identify the man so he can be questioned. The office has also been in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Illinois Secretary of State Police regarding the man's identity.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the sheriff's office at 815-235-8257 or Stateline Area Crime Stoppers at 866-847-7669.
