MONROE - A Browntown man was sentenced last week to two years of probation and 150 hours of community service for drunkenly firing a gun in April.

Todd R. Johnson, 43, pleaded no contest Thursday, Oct. 18, to a felony count of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and operating a firearm while intoxicated were dismissed.

The charges stem from an incident late in the evening of April 2 at his home on South Church Street.

Court records indicate Johnson stepped outside at about 9:45 p.m., yelled at his dog and then grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun and shot it into the air.

Deputies responded after receiving an alarm alert from the home's security system. When Johnson covered his windows and refused to come out, deputies called in a SWAT team and evacuated the neighbors from their homes. The standoff lasted several hours.

As part of his probation agreement, Johnson is ordered not to drink and must follow through with any treatment or counseling recommended by his agent.
