MONROE - An employee at Monroe Truck Equipment remains hospitalized in Madison after his shirt caught fire in a welding accident Monday.
Rodney Ruefer was transported to Monroe Clinic for treatment following the accident and was later taken to the University of Wisconsin Hospital. Initially, the extent of the Ruefer's injuries were unknown but later reports indicate Ruefer's injuries were serious.
The Monroe Times contacted MTE immediately following the accident for more information. At the time, Greg Krahenbuhl of MTE said, "I don't know if it's serious; I hope not. We do call EMS even if it is not something serious."
Krahenbuhl did not yet know the extent of Ruefer's injuries at the time his comment was made.
The Monroe Fire Department responded to the call at about 4:45 p.m. along with Monroe EMS.
A spokesman for UW Hospital said that Ruefer was in good condition as of Thursday afternoon.
