MONROE - A Monroe man is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 17 after he pleaded no contest to homicide by use of a vehicle, use of a controlled substance Tuesday before Judge Thomas Vale in Green County Circuit Court.

Lawrence A. Pfaff II, 23, faces up to 15 years in prison and 10 years probation for the class D felony.

The court dismissed one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, a class D felony; homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, a class G felony; and knowingly operating a vehicle after revocation, a class A misdemeanor. He originally faced more than 60 years in prison and up to $235,000 in fines.

Pfaff remains free on a $10,000 signature bond.

Court records indicate Pfaff was driving a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 truck when it crossed the center line and hit a vehicle driven by James A. Ogbeide, 51, Madison, on Sept. 1 on Wisconsin 11 east of Lumber Yard Road in Spring Grove township.

Pfaff's vehicle left the road and caught fire. He was taken by Med-Flight to the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison.

Ogbeide was wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
