MONROE - A 26-year-old man held police at bay for two hours Sunday morning, Oct. 27, before surrendering without incident.

Monroe police were called to a residence in the 2300 block of 16th Avenue at 7:08 a.m. Sunday for a domestic disturbance in which a handgun was displayed, according to a news release. Police had previously been called to the same address multiple times for domestic issues earlier Sunday morning.

After officers arrived on the scene, the suspect's wife and two female companions fled the house, leaving the husband inside. Monroe officers and Green County Sheriff's Department deputies set up a perimeter around the house. The Monroe/Lafayette Emergency Response Team also assisted at the scene.

After about two hours of negotiations, the man surrendered. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

The man was taken into police custody. The news release said a search warrant was being sought for the home on Sunday and the incident is under investigation.
