DARLINGTON - The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department has released the names of the drivers involved in the county's first traffic fatality of 2012.
Thurman E. Taylor, 45, Mineral Point, was declared dead at the scene of a two-vehicle collision reported at 9:34 a.m. Thursday, May 17, about three miles east of Shullsburg.
Taylor was driving a 2005 Dodge Stratus northbound on Summit Road/County E when he crossed Wisconsin 11 and apparently did not see a semi headed westbound on the highway.
The driver of the semi, Jerome A. Vogel, 69, Monroe, reportedly couldn't swerve in time and T-boned the car directly in the passenger side, pushing it down the road and causing severe damage to the car. Vogel was driving a 1998 International Semi-Tractor Trailer owned by Flying Eagle Express, a Monroe company.
Vogel was uninjured. Both men were wearing their seatbelts.
The Shullsburg EMS and Fire Departments, Darlington Fire Department and Wisconsin State Patrol also responded to the scene.
