MONROE — A Brodhead man was sentenced Jan. 6 to five years on probation for entering an abandoned house and nine months in jail for having sex with a 16-year-old inside.
Mason T. Obermann, 23, pleaded no contest to the Class F felony charge of burglary and misdemeanor charge of sexual intercourse with a child age 16 or older. He is eligible to serve his jail sentence with Huber work-release privileges.
He also entered a five-year deferred prosecution agreement on a Class C felony charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child. If he complies with the agreement, the charge will be fully dismissed. Five other felony charges in the case, including child enticement, were dismissed outright as part of the agreement.
According to the criminal complaint, Obermann had sexual encounters in August 2018 with two girls, ages 15 and 16, at his apartment on 1st Center Avenue and in an unoccupied, abandoned house in the 600 block of West 3rd Avenue in Brodhead. An investigation into the case began when the father of one of the girls reported to Brodhead police that his daughter “slept with a 22-year-old.”
