Man charged with timber theft at quarry

DARLINGTON — A Darlington man faces a timber theft charge for reportedly cutting down trees at an area quarry.

Jeremy Michael Mullen, 38, was charged Dec. 12 in Lafayette County Circuit Court with Class A misdemeanor counts of intentional timber theft with a value less than $2,500, criminal damage to property and bail jumping. His initial appearance is Jan. 7.

The criminal complaint indicates that on Aug. 15, Mullen cut down five large Aspen trees at Bard Material’s Ruef Quarry just south of Darlington on County K. Multiple small logs were also stolen.

Mullen reportedly hit power lines in the process of cutting down the trees, shutting down the quarry for two hours at a cost to Bard Materials of $24,000. Total damage was reported at $1,785.
