ARGYLE - An Argyle man remains in custody in the Lafayette County Jail after he was arrested Nov. 3 in connection to 35 property crimes, including arson, in five counties.

Kevin W. Phillips, 51, is charged with arson, burglary and theft.

The arson charge is in connection to a residential fire that took place March 23, 2009 in Argyle. Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley wouldn't give any details about the arson case because the investigation is on-going.

Phillips was jailed for a Wisconsin Probation and Parole hold. A court date for Phillips to appear in Lafayette County Court hasn't been issued.

Pedley said the burglary incidents took place in multiple homes and buildings. Because detectives are investigating the burglary and theft cases, Pedley would only say that the incidents took place in eastern and central portion of Lafayette County.

Phillips was arrested in Argyle following a tip to Lafayette County Sheriff's Department detectives.

Phillips was arrested for crimes in Lafayette County that date back to 2005, Pedley said. Phillips was allegedly involved with 29 incidents of burglary and theft in Lafayette County. He was also allegedly involved with burglary and theft incidents in Green, Rock, and Dane counties as well as Jo Daviess County in Illinois.

Pedley said detectives interviewed Phillips about one of the burglary cases and Phillips confessed to the other crimes. Detectives recovered 90 stolen items, which included a variety of hand tools, power tools and chain saws from Phillips' home and from a storage area near Argyle.

Some of the stolen items were consigned by Phillips at auctions in the area. Pedley said auctioneers weren't aware that any of the items were stolen.

Lafayette County Sheriff's Department detectives will continue to contact victims to gather information.
