DARLINGTON - An Indiana man was arrested for attempted sexual assault, strangulation and false imprisonment Friday at Festival Grounds Park.
Richard E. Dewitt, 37, Fort Wayne, was arrested at 1:45 p.m. as a result of an investigation into a disturbance that occurred earlier in the day at the park, according to a news release from the Darlington Police Department.
Dewitt faces felony charges of second-degree sexual assault/use of force, strangulation and suffocation, and false imprisonment. Dewitt also faces a misdemeanor charge of battery.
Dewitt is scheduled to make an initial appearance in Lafayette County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Officials from the Darlington Police Department could not be reached for comment.
