Man arrested for crashing into Darlington Dollar General Friday

DARLINGTON — No injuries were reported when authorities found a local retailer in disarray Friday night after responding to a call that a vehicle had smashed into a wall of the building.

Robin D. Fries, 62, Darlington, was driving a van along Wisconsin 81 around 8 p.m. Friday when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a side of the local Dollar General store, destroying a Redbox movie rental machine, according to a release from Darlington Police Chief Jason King.

He was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated by the Darlington Police Department. According to a release by Chief Jason King, Fries destroyed a Redbox movie rental machine in the crash. No injuries were reported.

The van broke through the concrete exterior, coming to a rest with its front half inside of the building. 

According to the release, Fries was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to maintain control of a vehicle and reckless driving. He also faces possible charges of disorderly conduct, attempting to batter a police officer and resisting arrest. 

Fries was jailed pending a court appearance. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene.
