Man arrested after throwing beer can

MONROE/ARGYLE — An Illinois man was arrested in Monroe after his girlfriend reported he threw a beer can at her and hit her in the head while they were out tubing on the Pecatonica River south of Argyle.

The alleged assault was reported at 12:10 a.m. Aug. 2 at Blackhawk Memorial Park, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and Argyle police responded, but the boyfriend was gone from the park.

Monroe police located him soon after in the 700 block of 21st Street.

Zachary R. Hamel, 30, Dekalb, was arrested by Monroe police on a first-offense charge of operating while intoxicated, then turned over to Lafayette County deputies, who arrested him on charges of disorderly conduct and battery. He was booked at the Lafayette County Jail, then released on bond.
