Man, 24, arrested in drug operation

Benjamin L. Hass Arrested
JUDA - A Juda man was arrested Wednesday after members of the State Line Area Narcotics Team (SLANT) found an indoor marijuana operation in his home at W2940 Washington St.

Benjamin L. Hass, 24, was arrested for manufacture marijuana, harboring a drug house and possession of drug paraphernalia, all as a repeat offender. Hass was jailed.

Hass was convicted of manufacturing and delivering marijuana in 2006 in Rock County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to six months in jail.

He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia Feb. 22 in Green County. He was free on a $300 signature bond. a pretrial conference for the unclassified misdemeanor charge was scheduled for April 6.

The narcotics team executed a search of Hass' home at about 7:15 a.m., according to Green County Chief Deputy Jeff Skatrud.

An indoor marijuana growing operation was found on the second floor of the residence.

Officers seized 107 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, growing lights, fans, fertilizers, pots, irrigation material, remnants of previously harvested plants and a variety of other items used to manufacture marijuana.

Cultivated marijuana plants yield an average of one pound of marijuana per plant, Skatrud said. He said the marijuana could be worth up to $100,000, however, the exact amount depends on the quality and demand.

A visitor to the home at the time of the search, Kevin W. Hayden, 35, Juda, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

The narcotics team is comprised of representatives from the Illinois State Police, Green County Sheriff's Department, Monroe Police Department, Freeport Police Department, Stephenson County Sheriff's Department, Loves Park Police Department and Rockford Police Department.
