MONROE - Main Street Monroe brings the flavors of the bayou to downtown Monroe at 6:30 p.m. Friday for the Concert on the Square.

The Copper Box Band will take center stage with a genre-bending fusion of rowdy roots and bluesy pop, along with generous helpings of zydeco and Americana. This four-piece band, led by husband and wife team Danny and Michelle Jerabek, brings a variety of instruments to life: guitar, saxophone, flute, button accordion, piano, cornet, sousaphone and even the washboard.

Throughout the evening, look out for brightly colored beads and a special appearance by a very tall Mardi Gras jester. Intermission will feature some lively "Street Corner Jazz" led by Janine Brown, Monroe High School director of bands.

Main Street Monroe's featured nonprofit for the evening is Shakespeare on the Edge, a group that brings arts programming to area youth through visual arts, movement, theater, improve, team building and fun. Other groups featured this season include Family Promise of Green County, Care Net Pregnancy Center, Literacy Council, Faith Addiction Awareness and Monroe Volunteer Firefighter Association.

Concert attendees can enter for a chance to win the "Best Seat in the House" contest with premium seating on custom Adirondack chairs from Wooden Trooper, plus refreshments and swag. Sign up all summer at Heartland Graphics; winners will be drawn prior to each show.

Upcoming concert dates are Something to Do Band, July 7; Back Country Roads, July 27; Cookie and the Real Deal, Aug. 11; and Corey Cox, Aug. 24. For the latest updates, follow "Downtown Monroe Events and News" on Facebook or visit the web site mainstreetmonroe.org.

Monroe Main Street asks that concert attendees make use of the trash cans and recycling stations that are provided and pick up after themselves. The organization also is looking for volunteers to help with clean-up or set-up duties. For details, contact Main Street Monroe director Jordan Nordby at 608-328-4023 or monroemainstreet@tds.net.
