For the first time in three elections, Dave Magnum won't be trying to unseat Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, in November.
Magnum, a Portage Republican who ran un-successfully against Baldwin in 2004 and 2006, announced today that he will not be a candidate again this year.
"While I am grateful for all the calls of encouragement, I won't be a candidate in '08," Magnum said in a news release. "Since the last campaign, I've added more radio stations to my group and I need to concentrate on getting them up to speed."
Magnum owns Magnum Radio Group. In his statement today, he hinted his career as a political candidate may not be over yet.
"I appreciate the folks who believe I'd make a good public servant," Magnum said, "and I do hope to prove them right one day."
Baldwin, first elected to Congress in 1998, will be challenged in the Sept. 9 Democratic Party primary in the 2nd District by Dave St. Amant, D-Madison. Dave Redick of Madison is the lone Republican candidate.
