MAC's 'Page to Stage' is about the costumes

MONROE - From July 1 to August 26, the Monroe Art Center (MAC) Frehner Gallery will present the exhibit titled "Page to the Stage: Selected Theatrical Costumes and Designs," which showcases both original costume sketches and costumes by Linda Roethke, Evanston, Ill.

Roethke, who attended high school in Blanchardville, is a professor and heads the costume design program at Northwestern University, Chicago.

She began building her body of theatrical designs and costumes in 1982, and her work has appeared in more than 100 different productions. Her work has appeared in performances of "My Fair Lady," "The Tempest," "Macbeth," and many more

Roethke is an alumnus from University of Wisconsin-Platteville and received her Masters of Fine Arts degree in Theatrical Design from the University of Iowa. Her mother, Mary, resides in Monroe.

An opening reception for Roethke's exhibit is scheduled for Friday, July 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. She will give a brief gallery talk at 5:30 p.m.
