MONROE - With the passion of a Hank Williams song, Carter family harmonies, and a little "Hee-Haw" mixed in for good measure, The WhiskeyBelles are known for captivating shows featuring their own take on vintage country, Americana, folk-revival and roots-country tunes, with their own witty originals sprinkled in.
The all-female trio, featuring three-part harmonies and their own fiddle, guitar and bass playing, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Monroe Arts Center.
Members of the Milwaukee-based WhiskeyBelles are Chrissy Dzioba (guitar, vocals), Kimmy Unger (fiddle, vocals), and Sara Moilanen (bass, vocals). They started their musical venture together in May of 2011. By July of the following year, they released their debut album, "Whiskey Woman," which was named one of the 10 best local albums of 2012 by Milwaukee Magazine. Their second album, titled "Nothin Says Christmas Like Whiskey," was released in November 2013.
Their sound has been compared to such music groups as the Pistol Annies, Dixie Chicks, and The Trio (Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt). They have shared the stage with country stars Montgomery Gentry, The Lost Trailers, and the Kentucky Headhunters, and were the 2014 Wisconsin Area Music Industry's Americana/Bluegrass Artists of the Year.
Before the performance of The WhiskeyBelles, the public is invited to attend the opening reception of MAC's annual Holiday Silent Auction fundraiser.
