MAC seeks photos for contest, exhibit

MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center is seeking photographs to enter its 24th annual photography contest and exhibit.

Photographs entered in this contest will be on exhibit in MAC Wesley Hall from Friday, Sept. 6 through Friday, Oct. 18. An opening reception and awards presentation for this exhibit is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6. The entry fee for the contest is $20 per photographer and the deadline to enter is Friday, Aug. 16.

The seven-person group photography exhibit titled "Wisconsin As We See It" will be concurrently on display in Frehner Gallery. The seven photographers include Don Mendenhall, Dave Peterson, Marcia Getto, Wayne Brabender, James Meldrum, Dan Rich and Carl Bowser. One or more photographers from the group show will judge the MAC photography contest.

The contest offers two separate classifications: the junior classification, for those under 18 years of age, and the adult classification. Participants may enter up to two photographs. This year's contest and exhibit feature three categories: Person, Place and Thing. Participants may enter no more than two categories and a total of two photographs. Photographs must have been taken after Jan. 1, 2012.

First-, second- and third-place ribbons will be given in each category and classification based on merit and number of entrants. Cash awards for the adult classification are $125 for Best of Show, $75 for first runner-up, and $50 for second runner-up. Cash awards for the junior classification are $50 for Best of Show, $30 for first runner-up and $20 for second runner-up.
