MONROE - Monroe Arts Center will be buzzing Saturday as three events are slated to take place throughout the day.
At 11 a.m. will be the performance of the stage musical "Old Befana," a heartwarming holiday tale of an old woman who keeps her front walk swept and her cookies fresh while she awaits the return of a special child. This original musical is a recipe for enchantment, delighting listeners of all ages with an illuminating spin on that familiar night of miracles. Madison musician, songwriter, and vocalist Ken Lonnquist, along with a delightful cast, will entertain with colorful costumes, a whimsical set and catchy songs ranging from folk to pop to rock and roll. General admission tickets are $5.
After three weeks on display in MAC's Frehner Gallery, the Holiday Silent Auction will conclude at 7:15 p.m. with a hearty whistle blow. Bids are currently being placed and will be accepted up until that time. Original and handcrafted items, books, music, clothing, jewelry, toys, sports-related items, gift certificates, baked goods, specialty dinners and more are open for bids.
The night also will feature Christmas music, merriment and song from the cast of Cannova's Christmas Show. At 7:30 p.m., the magic unfolds as this eight-member vocal ensemble, which performs each year at Cannova's Italian Cuisine in Freeport, presents a musical journey with a variety of Christmas tunes and magical stories in "A Cannova's Holiday Celebration." Vocalists Tracy Bristow, Tim Connors, Joy Hotchkiss, Allen Redford, Rick Roderick, Haley Shores, John Webb and Amy Welk will be accompanied by pianist and composer Patrick Beckman. Beckman has received critical acclaim for a number of his recordings. General admission tickets for "A Cannova's Holiday Celebration" are $10 for adults, $5 for students 18 and under and free for Monroe Arts Center members.
