MONROE - Several area artists were among those honored recently in the 2012 Wisconsin Regional Arts Program (WRAP) Competition.
This was the 25th consecutive year the Monroe Arts Center has hosted the program for non-professional artists. The program is co-sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Liberal Studies.
Guest artist and judge Carol Dolan, Palos Heights, Ill., chose a total of 20 artists to receive awards.
The state award winners were: Dave Waldera, Mount Horeb; Roger Dorneden, Apple River, Ill.; Jane Kraeuche Olson, New Glarus; Donald McKeon, Darlington; Mike McKinnon, Janesville; Mary Cuff, Stoughton; Barbara Leonard, Janesville; Darra Porter, Brodhead; Nikki Saugstad, Monroe; and Rafaela Wickstrum, Brodhead.
Artists given honorable mention awards were: Adair Najat, Monroe; Sally Conway, Beloit; Charlotte Heikkinen, Clinton; Tom Fjelstad, Mount Horeb; Jane Swenson, Browntown; Edith Miller, Brodhead; Jeanne Ausmus, Monroe; Sue Ivanko, Monroe; Nancy McKinnon, Janesville; and Lynda Caudell, Monroe.
All state award winning artworks selected at each of the Wisconsin regional exhibit locations this year will be juried at the Annual State Art Exhibition and Conference on Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Pyle Center, Madison. The Wisconsin Regional Artists Association, along with private individuals and local art clubs, fund the cash and service awards.
Artwork will be on display in Monroe Arts Center through Saturday, May 11. The exhibit will end with a workshop conducted by Dolan from 9:30 to noon Saturday, May 12.
The workshop is free for all WRAP participants and open to the public. Reservations are not needed but a $5 fee will be collected at the door. Materials will be provided for the workshop.
