MAC gets Wisconsin Arts Board grant

MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center has received a matching grant of $2,000 from the Wisconsin Arts Board. The grant was awarded through the Creation and Presentation Grant Program and will help support the music series presented by the arts center.

State grants are awarded through a competitive process. The grant indicates that the Monroe Arts Center provides a high level of quality in its programs, community outreach, and administration. The center presents a music series at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center, a music series and a classical music series and other events at the Monroe Arts Center. The center also provides the Performances in Schools Program for Monroe and Green County school children, among other programs. With the live and radio audience, the Monroe Arts Center serves more than 25,000 people, including more than 3,000 children.

Colony Brands Inc. is the season corporate underwriter while Monroe Publishing and Big Radio are season media underwriters. There is a substantial list of performance underwriters, including The Monroe Fund.

"Public support by the Wisconsin Arts Board enables our organization to reach new audiences, foster community development and provide quality programming," John Baumann, president of the Monroe Arts Center Board of Directors, said. "Our Performance in the Schools Program helps integrate the arts into the curriculum of Monroe and Green County schools. We are extremely proud of this role we are able to play."

The Wisconsin Arts Board has a budget of $1,560,000 for fiscal year 2015. Wisconsin Arts Board grants are awarded on a matching basis. Organizations that receive Arts Board funds are required to match state tax dollars with additional public and private funds.
