MONROE -The Green County Treasurer's office, in conjunction with the Wisconsin County Treasurer's Association, is dedicating the week of Monday, May 12 to verify that all eligible real property owners received the lottery credit on their 2013 tax bills.

Last year, the average lottery credit in Green County was about $100. The exact amount is based upon the school district in which homes are located.

To qualify for the lottery and gaming credit, an owner must be a Wisconsin resident, the owner of the dwelling and use the dwelling as their primary residence as of the certification date of Jan. 1, 2013. If temporarily absent, typically for a period no longer than six months, it is the home to which the owner returns. Principal dwelling means any dwelling used by the owner as his/her primary residence. A property owner may claim only one primary residence.

The lottery credit can only be obtained by having a signed application on file. For more information, contact the county treasurer's office at 608-328-9435. The treasurer's office will help eligible property owners who did not receive the credit complete the paperwork and file the forms with the Department of Revenue to claim the late lottery credit and ensure that the credit is applied to the 2014 tax bill.

For those who are eligible for the lottery credit and are not sure if they received it, the treasurer's office has provided a link at www.co.green.wi.gov with instructions that will help determine whether or not a lottery credit is on a tax bill.

Those who did not receive the credit and meet the qualifications can follow the instructions on how to file for the late lottery credit, or contact the treasurer's office at 608-328-9435 or email shawkins@greencountywi.org. The treasurer's office will assist anyone in completing the necessary paperwork to receive the credit for this year and on next year's tax bill.
