BRODHEAD -- A former dance hall in Brodhead off of Wisconsin 11 was completely destroyed by a fire that ignited Tuesday evening.
The former dance hall, Bluff View, was used as storage before the fire engulfed it, but in the past was a meeting place for community members for fish fries and weddings as well as a drinking establishment.
Brodhead Fire Chief Rob Scheidegger said the structure was a total loss but he did not have an estimate to the cost of the damages yet.Two cars, a bobcat and a lawnmower also stored in the building that were completely destroyed. The fire began by undetermined means at about 7:30p.m. and was quelled by 12:30 a.m., though Scheidegger said there was still some hay smoldering but was no cause for concern.
Scheidegger said the former bar was owned by a family that lived in a house close by but the fire did not spread to anything besides a few hay bales.
There were two-to-three horses outside the structure that were safely taken away from the fire.
Up until about 15 years ago the Bluff View used to be one of the "main hotspots," in town where people would socialize, Schedegger said.
"It has been there as long as I have been born, so like forever," he said.
