MONROE - Green County Emergency Management will hold local severe weather and tornado spotters' classes March 30.

The first class will be at 12:30 p.m. at the Green County Justice Center at 2841 6th St. in Monroe, and the second class is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Brodhead Fire Department at 1100 West 3rd Ave. in Brodhead. Tim Halbach, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service, will be instructing the classes.

The classes will be split in two sections. The first hour will focus on severe weather safety with an emphasis on Wisconsin's tornado history, how to get information quickly and safety from tornadoes, damaging winds, flash floods and lightning. The second hour will focus on what weather should be reported, radar interpretation, storm features and why the National Weather Service needs spotters. Attendees can choose to attend one or both sessions. One weather radio will be given away at each class.

The classes are free and are open to all first responders as well as the general public. Due to limited seating, one must register by contacting Green County Emergency Management at 608-328-9416.

Additional resources to help prepare for the storm season can be found at Green County Emergency Management's website at www.greencountyems.org and on Facebook.
