MONROE — Police are continuing their search for suspects in the Jan. 26 armed robbery of a small Mexican grocery just off the square.
At 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2024, Monroe Police were called to the scene of a reported armed robbery at Grocery Abbarotes La Orizabena, 1504 11th Street, in Monroe’s downtown.
The initial report was that three masked Hispanic men entered the business, each displayed a handgun, and then robbed it. The three then fled the store, running east on 11th Street and then south into a nearby alley. An undetermined amount of U.S. currency was taken.
Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said that at some point, the men then got into an all-black, 4-door sedan with a damaged hood, which was likely occupied by a fourth person. It is unknown whether the fourth suspect was also armed.
The car was seen leaving the area traveling west on 12th Street.
On Monday, police were still pursuing leads and released a photographs of the getaway car and the suspects. They are urging anyone who has information about the vehicle or suspects to come forward.
“We don’t have anyone in custody yet,” said Capt. Jerry Dahlen. “But we are still processing evidence from the scene.”
Dahlen said he isn’t sure why the business was targeted, but detectives are reaching out to other departments to determine if other crimes in the area fit a similar pattern.
No one was injured in the ordeal.
