BRODHEAD - A flood watch for the Sugar River at Brodhead was upgraded to a flood warning by the National Weather Service Tuesday morning, April 8.
By 3 p.m. Tuesday, the east branch of the Pecatonica River near Blanchardville and the Pecatonica River near Martintown had been added to the flood warnings.
The forecast is for the Sugar River to rise above the flood stage of 5 feet by Wednesday afternoon, April 9, and continue to rise to about 5.3 feet by early Thursday morning, April 11. The river is then expected to fall below flood stage before midnight.
With the river at 5 feet, some roads become flooded about 6 miles downstream in Avon Township in Rock County. Some minor flooding develops in Sugar River Park, including the boat ramp, in the Avon Bottoms area in Rock County.
At 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, the Sugar River stage was at 2.6 feet, with more than an inch of rain predicted in the following 24 hours.The Pecatonica River east branch near Blanchardville has a flood stage of 11 feet, and is expected to reach 11.6 feet Thursday.
At Martintown, with a flood stage of 13.5 feet, the Pec is expected to reach 13.9 feet on early Friday afternoon and fall below flood stage Saturday afternoon. Minor flooding is forecast for these communities. The Pecatonica River was at 9 feet at 2:15 p.m. April 9.
Flood waters will impact Martintown Road and West River Road in the Martintown area. Upstream near Browntown, flooding could affect Wisconsin MM and West Indies Road.
A flood watch continues in effect through Friday morning in other parts of south central Wisconsin.
Scattered thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain is expected into Thursday, with small hail possible.
One to three inches of rain has fallen from Monday through Tuesday afternoon in southern and eastern Wisconsin. An additional 2 to 2.5 inches are forecast.
