MONROE - More than 125 units participated in The Swiss Colony Cheese Days Parade of 2016, a two-hour event with music and entertainment.

Young American 4-H Club won the honor of the People's Choice Award. The club's float themed "Cheese is the Hero of the Day" featured a rotating emblem pronouncing its affiliation with the "Cheese Days Justice League," and featured 4-Hers in capes striking super hero poses.

Paul Mitchell the School encouraged parade watchers to "Follow the Yellow Brick Cheese Road" with its Wizard of Oz cast of characters which included Toto the Dog plus the school's admissions leader, Amy Campbell, as the Glinda the Good Witch. Its entry won the award for Best Decorated.

Runner-up for Best Decorated was the Green County Beef Producers with "Beef Makes Cheese Even Better." The group's giant cheeseburger was so well-designed it won the admiration of the professional float builder who was on site, according to the news release.

Winning the category for Best Theme was PDC with "40 Years of Supporting Wisconsin's Cheese Industry." Its float provided a then-and-now perspective - with a scene showing a copper kettle (in the early days heated with fire and later with steam) contrasted with the high-tech stainless and electrical operation seen in today's cheese factories.

Runner-up for Best Theme was Big Brothers Big Sisters "Being a Big is Whey Cool." Adults wore "Big Cheese" T-shirts and children wore "Little Curd" T-shirts.

Colony Brands sponsored the parade. Cathy and Al Wald were parade chairmen.
