Local conservation groups seek public input

DARLINGTON — Several Lafayette County Conservation Committees will be meeting over the next few weeks, seeking input from the general public. All meetings will be held at the Lafayette County Multi-Purpose Building, 11974 Ames Rd. Darlington. These meetings will offer an opportunity for the public to provide input on a variety of topics, ranging from deer management and forestry, to agriculture and land use. 

The Sportsman’s Alliance Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27. The Sportsman’s Alliance meeting covers all of Lafayette County, which includes a representative from each of the following: Argyle Rod & Gun Club, Belmont Sportsman’s Club, Benton Isaac Walton League, Blackhawk Sportsman’s Club of South Wayne, Blanchardville Rod & Gun Club, Fayette Sportsman’s Club, Gratiot Sportsman’s Club, and Shullsburg Conservation Club. This meeting is open to the public. All are encouraged to attend.

The Wisconsin Conservation Congress (WCC), along with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), will offer a variety of natural resource-related questions with an in-person opportunity at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024. Fish and Wildlife staff, wardens and other DNR staff will be on hand to answer questions. Those unable to be in attendance during the meeting can go online starting at noon on Wednesday, April 10, through noon on Saturday, April 13, to answer conservation related questions. There are delegate seats in each county up for election. County residents wanting to run for a seat or vote for delegates should bring proof of residency.

The Lafayette County Deer Advisory Council (CDAC) meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 22. Anyone wanting to give their input regarding the deer hunting season, is encouraged to address any thoughts, concerns, or opinions to the council. The CDAC Committee is made up of several individuals: two members of the Conservation Congress and one member each from the following groups and committees: Agriculture, Deer Management Assistance Program, Forestry, Hunting Organization, Transportation, Tourism, Local Government, and Tribal (none at this time). In addition, there are three members from the DNR that completes the 13 members of the Lafayette County Deer Advisory Council. All persons with any interest in the deer hunt season are encouraged to attend.
