MONROE - A community bank with a location in Monroe is changing names to better market itself and dispel confusion.

Wisconsin Bank & Trust is the new name for an institution known by two different names in the state: Wisconsin Community Bank in Monroe and Madison, and Heartland Business Bank in the Green Bay and Sheboygan markets.

The name change won't affect the bank's services or employees and is solely a marketing move, according to CEO and Chairman Tom Wilkinson.

"This is just a black-and-white name change and consolidation," Wilkinson said.

Wisconsin Bank & Trust has seven branch offices in Wisconsin and is a subsidiary of the Iowa-based Heartland Financial USA, Inc. Its origins as Cottage Grove State Bank date back to 1912.

The new name is intended to highlight the bank's "vibrant" trust and wealth-management services, Wilkinson said.

On a practical level, he said, the new consolidated name gives the bank an edge in potential expanding markets by simplifying the bank's image.

Before, Wilkinson said he was constantly having to explain why his business card had two bank names on it. Advertising in state publications was cumbersome, too, since the ads had to convey that the two names operated under the same umbrella.

The name change was announced Wednesday, July 18.
