MONROE - Registrations are currently being accepted for the art class series "Water Media Painting" to be taught by artist Deborah Meyer. This six-week series, for all levels of students age 18 and older, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays from Feb. 16 through March 22 at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St.

Classes will include live demonstrations and hands-on instruction, along with discussion and instruction on color mixing, techniques, brush handling, composition and glazing. Water media can include acrylic, water-soluble oils and watercolor paints.

Meyer began the study of painting as an art major in the early 1970s and has enjoyed a career in the creative arts, including advertising and interior design. She has been painting passionately and consistently since 1998 and teaches a variety of workshops at all levels. She works predominantly in acrylic and oil and is a realist painter, taking elements of nature and exploring the abstract character of them. Her method of work involves layering multiple applications of glazes to achieve a depth and complexity in the style of the old masters. She employs contrasting texture and tones as well as rich, vibrant color to portray images of the world as she sees it. Exploring the relationship of people and nature, she is guided by the pleasure of the creative process. She is a member of the Momentum Art Guild and International Society of Acrylic Painters.

The fee for the six-week series is $120, and participants must register by Feb. 10. A materials list will be provided at the time of registration. To register or for additional information, contact the Monroe Arts Center at 608-325-5700 or info@ monroeartscenter.com.
