MONROE - The Loaves and Fishes Steering Committee is holding a meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Monroe United Methodist Church, 2227 4th St. to find people interested in joining a new sub-committee with the goal of creating a free monthly community meal.
The Loaves and Fishes Community Meal of Green County will be offered at a local site to be announced pending final approval. The site has a commercial kitchen, ample seating, handicap access and parking. The meal will be served on the fourth Sunday of each month, anytime from 4 to 6 p.m. Community business, organizations, churches and service groups would be invited to sponsor a monthly meal.
The first community meal will be prepared and served by a host church or other organization, with a target date of Sunday, April 22. Initial funding is through seed funds provided by The Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee, with the intention that additional sources will be developed from the community for future meals.
