Line up for Memorial Day parade squads listed

MONROE - The Veteran's Monroe Memorial Day Program includes decorating soldier's graves, a parade and ceremony.

Veterans will begin the Memorial tribute at 6 a.m. on Monday, May 31, by raising the flags on the "Avenue of Flags." Volunteers will then decorate graves at 7 a.m. before heading to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2312 for coffee and donuts at 8 a.m.

All squad leaders should report to Newt Neuenschwander and Jim Bartelt at the big monument to assist people in finding their places. Grave decorating groups are:

Squad 1: Elva Hermanson, BSA Troop 101, GSA Troop 217,265.

Squad 2: Neal Schwartz, Cindi Schwartz, Mike Furgal, Deb Hendrickson, BSA Troop 180, GSA Troop 204.

All scouts and Junior auxiliary will be assigned to squads at 6:45 a.m. Monday Memorial Day. Boy Scouts meet with Mike Grebner and the Girls Scouts meet with Lenae Ambrose at the memorial monument.

The parade units will assemble at 8:30 a.m. at Recreation Park. The parade, starting at 9 a.m., travels from the park to the cemetery. A ceremony follows in the cemetery at 9:30 a.m. with introductions by Richard Wescott, American Legion Commander.

• Pastor Dan Krahenbuhl, Monroe Bible Church of Monroe, will give the invocation and benediction.

• Musical selections will be by the Monroe High School Band directed by Brian Bruggeman.

The public is invited to join the veterans organizations for a noon potluck dinner at the American Legion Post Home.

The "Avenue of Flags" will be taken down at 2 p.m.
