MONROE - The film "The Business of Being Born" will be shown at the Monroe Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29.
The documentary was produced by TV talkshow host and "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Ricki Lake. The film compares various childbirth methods, including midwives, natural birth, epidurals and the use of Pitocin and Cesarean sections.
The film documents actual home births, empowering hospital births and water births. It follows midwife, Cara Mulhallan, in New York as she cares for and attends several births. Local doulas Jodi Bubenzer, Darla Krieger and Paula Vestin, along with the Monroe Public Library, are sponsoring the showing.
There will be a discussion afterward where attendees will have the opportunity to meet local doulas and midwives and ask questions. Snacks will also be provided. The event is free and open to the public.
