MONROE - Jan Lefevre was comfortable with the 45-vote spread between her and challenger Daniel DeMuth for City of Monroe Ward 4 alderman election Tuesday.
"It means the people in my ward really feel I've done a good job, and that they trust me to continue working for them on any coming big issues," Lefevre said just minutes after the votes were in.
Lefevre was with close friends at Baumgartner's for the election returns.
Lefevre beat DeMuth 127 to 82, in her third run for the alderman position. She ran against Dr. John Frantz for her first term and unopposed for her second term, two-year term.
Lefevre said there were many similarities between her and DeMuth on issues.
"I like him, I've met him and I think he's a good guy. I appreciate that he ran a clean campaign," she said. "But he's new in town, and I think a lot of people don't know him. I've established a record."
From his home Tuesday night, DeMuth said he didn't mind taking the losing position.
"I'm new - or newer - to town, but I did receive 40 percent of the votes," he said.
"I think it's unfortunate that, out of 800 registered voters, only 200 showed up to vote, but I'm thankful for the 82 that voted for me," he said. "I have an awesome family, a great neighborhood, and I still love Monroe."
DeMuth said he would continue as chairman for the American Cancer Relay for Life, and look for more ways to serve the community.
"This was my first experience with city government, and it was a positive, so I may look to continue that route. Down the road, I may try again," he said.
Lefevre encouraged more people to run for City Council.
"We've got a good group on there (Council), but after so many years, there should be some new blood." she said.
In other city elections, Paul Hannes, Ward 2; Keith Ingwell, Ward 6; Dan Henke, Ward 8; and Charles Schuringa, Ward 10, ran unopposed.
