MONROE - This fall season, the Monroe Theatre Guild is offering new opportunities for all ages to learn and explore the arts.

The Stage Right Youth Theatre program will begin its fall season with "Acting Essentials for Teens" for ages 13-18 on Saturday, Oct. 24. Instructors, Stephen and Katee Eliasson, will help build a basic understanding and solid foundation of acting skills for a lifetime of roles and performances. No acting experience is necessary for this fun workshop, and there is no performance pressure during class.

For the younger folks, Dave Bristow will hold the workshops "Act I" for 7- to 9-year-olds and "Acting Out" for ages 10-13. Both workshops will be Saturday, Nov. 7. These classes will work on vocal projection, overcoming the fear of looking silly in front of others, and will use improvisational techniques to get at intuitive thinking. Beginners to advanced students are welcome.

New to the MTG lineup will be programming for the 4- to 7-year-old age group led by instructor Tracy Bristow. These classes will focus on music and movement using a variety of musical instruments coupled with rhythmic poems and rhymes. Both workshops will be Saturday, Nov. 14, and feature "Wiggle, Rattle and Sing" for ages 4-5 and "Rhythms, Rhymes and Jingles" for ages 6-7.

For kids ages 8-12 who want to explore their creativity, "Junk Puppets" is a fun introduction to the art of puppetry. This workshop taught by Suzanne Miller will be Saturday, Dec. 19. Students will use a variety of throw-away and recycled items to make several kinds of puppets, including marionettes, hand puppets and stick puppets. Students will be given "play" time to work with partners to create a storyline and develop a puppet skit to perform for other students. All creations will go home at the end of the workshop.

The adult fall workshop is "Scenes from the Bard! Shakespeare Camp for Adults" for ages 17 and older. This all-day workshop will be Saturday, Nov. 21, and will culminate in a 6 p.m. fun performance with a potluck dinner to follow. Instructor Susan Nanning-Sorenson will lead this merry troupe on a journey to learn more about performing Shakespeare! Participants will prepare some of Shakespeare's most beloved scenes and monologues and present them for family and friends at an informal gathering for the evening. Various costume accessories will be provided and scripts will be available ahead of time for those who wish to work on some memorization prior to camp.

The "MTG Youth Choir" program will be offering a fall session for students ages 7-21. It will culminate in two performance opportunities just in time for the holiday season. MTG Youth Choir is separated into two groups. Singers ages 7-12 are eligible for MTG's Junior Choir program, where they will learn basic music reading skills, basic vocal technique and rehearsal skills. Singers ages 13 -21 are eligible for MTG's Senior Choir program. Singers will hone their music reading skills, receive advanced vocal technique and rehearsal skills and will learn and perform a variety of musical pieces. The choirs will be directed by Cindy Blanc and will focus on holiday music.

Tuition costs vary for all of the fall programs, but full scholarships are available for all classes. No one will be turned away for inability to pay.
