MADISON — A Lafayette County man released from prison in March on convictions of child enticement is now charged in federal court with receiving and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Alan J. Liphart, 36, Darlington, was indicted July 8 by a U.S. District Court grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin.
The indictment alleges Liphart received an image of child sexual abuse via text message on Sept. 7, 2015. It also alleges he possessed a TracFone that contained pornography on May 25 and that at least one of the depictions involved a minor younger than 12.
Liphart faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison on the charge of receiving child pornography and 10 years on the possession of child pornography charge.
The charges stem from an investigation by the Darlington Police Department, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Rock Island (Illinois) Police Department.
Liphart was released from state prison into community supervision in 2013 after serving an eight-year sentence for convictions out of Lafayette County of felony child enticement involving sexual contact. He has been incarcerated several times since then for revocations of his extended supervision.
