DARLINGTON - Two Argyle men were charged with 14 charges of burglary Monday in connection with a string of burglaries throughout Lafayette County over the summer.
Cody Alan Young, 23, and Patrick Joseph Allen, 22, each face seven felony charges of burglary, seven misdemeanor charges of theft and an additional misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property.
Young admitted to police that the two were responsible for seven unsolved burglaries after being arrested for a probation violation July 15.
According to police records, Young and Allen broke into and robbed seven businesses throughout Lafayette County over a 12-day period.
The duo struck first June 26 in Blanchardville at Husie's Bar and Grill, from which the pair stole cash and merchandise - including cigarettes, tobacco and lighters - totaling an estimated $1,400. The same night, they also robbed the Four Seasons Resort in Argyle, making off with an estimated $600 worth of assorted cash, tobacco and knives.
Young and Allen next robbed three businesses July 2: Lelle's Bar in Woodford, and Ruf's Farm Service and Brunkow Cheese, both near Darlington. From all three, they stole a mixture of cash and merchandise, particularly from Lelle's bar, from which
they stole multiple cartons of
cigarettes, a box of M&Ms,
several bottles of alcohol, and more.
On July 7, the two robbed the Yellowstone Dairy Bar and the neighboring Yellowstone Bait and Tackle in Blanchardville. In addition to stealing cash and merchandise, the pair also damaged an ATM outside, leading to the charge of criminal damage to property.
Allen was arrested July 11 after police chased him from the scene of a residential burglary in progress in Argyle. Young was not found at the scene.
After admitting to the crimes, Young led police to where he and Allen had hidden the stolen goods, although much of it had already been destroyed, lost or consumed.
The two will have their initial appearance in court Monday.
