MONROE - The Green County Cheese Days Festival is hosting a Cheese Sandwich Contest for children ages 12 and under.

Kids can create their very own "signature sandwich" while using cheese made in Green County as one of the ingredients. Under the guidance of parents or adults, contest entrants will choose their bread, fillings, condiments and a cheese or cheeses made in Green County, and then assemble the perfect cold cheese sandwich and come up with a name for it.

Entry forms, along with a photo of the child holding or eating their sandwich, are due by Monday, Aug. 20.

Finalists will be invited to appear on stage at the Cheese Days festival with an assembled sandwich in the Colony Brands Hospitality Tent at noon Saturday, Sept. 15.

Finalists will state their name, the name of their sandwich and what type of cheese is in it. An emcee will prompt with additional appropriate questions. Winners in each age division will receive prizes, and all finalists who appear on stage will receive a bag of gifts and prizes. Judging will be based on creativity, originality and a brief on-stage interview.

Entry forms and more information are available at www.cheesedays.com, and at the Cheese Days office at the Green County Courthouse, 1016 16th Ave., or by calling (608) 325-7771.
