MONROE — The Green County Sheriff’s Department has a new second in command after Chief Deputy Thomas Moczynski made the difficult decision to retire. 

According to Sheriff Jeff Skatrud, the Green County Sheriff’s Office conducted an internal promotional process for a new Chief Deputy. 

Ultimately, Cody D. Kanable was appointed as the next Chief Deputy and began his new assignment on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024. Chief Deputy Kanable has served with the Green County Sheriff’s Office since May 15, 2008. His law enforcement background includes experience as a Patrol Deputy, K-9 Handler, Patrol Sergeant, Lieutenant and SWAT Team Commander.

“We are grateful to Chief Deputy Moczynski for serving the citizens of Green County for over nine years and looking forward to Chief Deputy Kanable taking on his new role,” Skatrud said. “Please join me in congratulating Chief Deputy Kanable.”
