MONROE - The trial for James M. Norquay, 49, Juda, got underway with nearly four hours of jury selection Monday.
Seven women and seven men comprise the 12-member jury and two alternates. The trial is expected to go through the week.
Norquay, a former state patrol officer, is charged with six counts, all class C felony charges: one count of second-degree sexual assault of a child; three counts of sexual assault of a child by a foster parent; and two counts of incest with a child.
The crimes are alleged to have been committed at a residence in the Town of Clarno, between November 2008 and December 2009.
Attorney Eric Schulenburg for Norquay, and Assistant Attorney General Dennis Krueger, who is prosecuting the case for Green County, agreed in early October to excuse 15 of the 70-juror pool for the trial, and eventually excused about five more, bringing the jury pool to about 50.
Green County Circuit Judge Thomas Vale, presiding over the trial, noted that "100 percent" of the county residents summoned for jury duty showed up Monday at the Justice Center for the selection process.
