MADISON — The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development recently released U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates of employment and unemployment statistics for metropolitan areas, major cities, and counties in Wisconsin for June 2024.
In brief, the nonseasonally adjusted data for Wisconsin shows:
● Metropolitan Statistical Areas: Preliminary June 2024 unemployment rates increased in all 12 areas over the month; rates decreased or stayed the same in all 12 areas over the year.
● Municipalities: Preliminary June 2024 unemployment rates increased in all 35 cities over the month; rates decreased or stayed the same in 31 cities over the year.
● Counties: Preliminary June 2024 unemployment rates decreased or stayed the same in nine counties over the month; rates decreased or stayed the same in 67 counties over the year.
Lafayette County again led the state with a not-seasonably adjusted unemployment rate of 2.4%. Green County was next at 2.5%, followed by Door County at 2.6%.
Lafayette County’s unemployment rate did jump slightly from May to June, rising by 0.3%, while Green County went up 0.2%. The 2024 unemployment rate for both counties is still better than their mark at the same time in 2023.
All but one of Wisconsin’s 72 counties had a rate at 4.7% or lower. Menominee (6.1%) had the state’s highest unemployment rate in June 2024, ahead of Iron (4.7% and Adams (4.6%).
Seasonally adjusted unemployment estimates for MSAs are available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics website: http://www.bls.gov/lau/metrossa.htm. City and county unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted.
