JUDA - At the board meeting Jan. 10, the Juda School Board:

• Heard from foreign exchange student Dominik Hoppe from Germany about his Juda experiences and learned more about his life in Germany.

• Recognized art students Bella Carnes and Lilly Riebe for having their artwork chosen to be displayed at the Wisconsin Association of School Boards convention. Riebe placed ninth in the contest. The board also recognized Shelby Anderson for receiving honorable mention for her artwork in the Youth Art Month Flag Contest.

• Heard a report from elementary staff: Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Ramos. Mrs. Walker reported on her year so far in the 4K Program and the activities the students have been doing. Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Ramos discussed the standard based report cards, standard alignment and parent-teacher conferences. All three spoke about the different aspects of the elementary school, such as the "great space" they have to work in for small group learning, PBIS, STEAM activities, new math curriculum and class Dojo.

• Discussed various resolutions to be brought before WASB convention delegates the following week.

• Heard information from Superintendent Traci Davis on a scheduled joint board meeting with JAM Boards on March 21.

• Approved attendance for staff at the ISTE National Convention in Chicago in June.

• Authorized Davis' advertising for a full-time band teacher.

• Expressed appreciation for staff who act as crossing guards. Adult School Crossing Guard Week is Jan. 16-20.

• Tabled discussion on the 2018-2019 school calendar until February.

• Dismissed the limitation of regular and special education open enrollment for the school year.

• Took no action coming out of executive session.
