What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?

This is an exciting time in the School District of New Glarus. As a district, we are succeeding in areas where other rural districts around the state often struggle. We have managed organic growth in the district and balanced demand for open enrollment, all while maintaining high academic achievement. Programs continue to be implemented to ready all of our students for life beyond high school, whether that is preparing for college, a career or reinforcing life skills. I welcome the opportunity to help shape the future of the district as we continue to move forward with the goals of fostering a passion for learning and the accessibility of high quality education for all students.

Nearly all public schools face steady pressure to do their best, financially, with what they are allocated. There are always more opportunities to pursue than there are funds available. This is why budgeting and prioritizing the needs within the district is an ongoing and important job for the School Board. I look forward to learning more about what the administration and community see as priorities and how we can utilize the funding we are provided in the most responsible way possible to achieve maximum impact.

What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?

There is so much value in our district maintaining its small town values while providing big opportunities for our students, and I would strive to maintain that standard. We can continue to propel our district forward by having strong, efficient, relevant curriculum led by high quality, empowered educators and administrators who, in turn, value high achievement. It is my hope to see a continued emphasis placed on ways the School Board and administration can facilitate an environment that embraces this culture.

I feel strongly that reasonable and well thought out policies and decisions begin with listening and open dialogue between all interested stakeholders. That includes district families and community members alike. I hope that the voters in the School District of New Glarus will entrust me with the opportunity to bring this perspective to the Board of Education.
