MONROE - A Janesville man was charged July 20 with sexual assault and battery after he urinated on a woman and dragged her through a campfire at a Brodhead campground in June.

Derick D. Dallmann, 28, faces a Class G felony count of third-degree sexual assault, a Class I felony county of substantial battery and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct after an incident on June 3 at Sweet Minihaha Campground, Town of Brodhead.

According to a police report, Dallmann was camping with a woman when the two had an argument over the woman's phone. Dallmann took the woman's phone but gave it back shortly after.

However, Dallmann then demanded the phone again. When the woman refused, Dallmann threatened to punch her in the face.

Dallmann then reportedly grabbed the woman by the legs and dragged her from her camp chair to the ground. He then dragged the woman through the campfire before stomping on her head with steel-toed boots, briefly knocking her unconscious.

The assault was interrupted by fellow campers, who separated the two. When the woman came to, she sought assistance from other campers but nobody helped, so she returned to her campsite to sleep.

The woman then was reportedly awakened by Dallmann urinating on her. The woman fled again and was this time able to leave the campground when another camper offered her a ride.

The woman sustained second- and third-degree burns to her hands and arms, some of which required skin grafts, as well as head injuries.

Dallmann was apprehended while walking toward Brodhead on Wisconsin 11. He was taken to a Rock County hospital to be treated for dehydration and is currently in custody in Rock County.

Dallmann's maximum possible sentence is 4.5 years in prison.
