MONROE - A Janesville man was arrested and charged Sunday with his fifth drunk driving offense after an incident in Brodhead.
Richard Wayne Lund, 49, was previously convicted of four drunk driving charges, two of which occurred in Wisconsin.
Lund's most recent offense took place on Sept. 4 at a residence in the 400 block of 1st Center Avenue in Brodhead.
Green County Sheriff's deputies were called to assist Brodhead Police with a domestic abuse investigation. According to a police report, Lund and a woman had been apprehended by Brodhead officers by the time deputies arrived. When deputies began to question Lund, they realized from his speech and breath that he was significantly intoxicated.
Lund directly admitted to having consumed alcohol at a local bar earlier in the day and had driven from the bar to the Brodhead residence on his motorcycle. Lund denied having had any other intoxicants after leaving the bar.
Lund refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, but later begged officers to not arrest him. When they refused, he became verbally abusive and threatened to beat up the officers or commit suicide.
Results of a blood alcohol test have yet to be released.
Lund's most recent drunk driving conviction was for an incident in Rock County on Nov. 4, 2011. He was sentenced to six months in jail and had his license revoked for 30 months for that charge.
Lund will appear in court for a preliminary hearing Oct. 4.
