DARLINGTON - Badger Resource Conservation and Development Council will host a public stakeholder meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Lafayette County Land and Water Conservation Department Building to discuss the newly developed Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan for the West Branch of the Pecatonica River.

The plan was developed in response to two high priority aquatic invasive species being found on or near the riparian area of the river. The discussions will focus around the Watershed Plan, best management practices for aquatic invasive species and future control strategies for the invasive species Japanese hop and Japanese knotweed. These two species have been found at multiple sites on the Pecatonica River and, if left uncontrolled, could have a negative impact on the watershed, according to a news release.

All citizens who own land or live near the West Branch of the Pecatonica are invited to attend this meeting. If interested, RSVP to Don Barrette, aquatic invasive species coordinator, at 608-219-7842 or don.barrette@swbadger.org by Saturday.

Help prevent the spread of aquatic hitchhikers by following these four simple steps:

Inspect equipment and remove attached plants and animals: This is required by law.

Drain all water from equipment: This is required by law.

Scrub equipment with a stiff brush and a Virkon Aquatic solution if available, including crevices, to remove all mud and snails.

Rinse equipment with tap water to remove juveniles. Consider keeping a brush or spray bottle in the car.

The Land and Water Conservation Department Building is at 1900 Ervin Johnson Dr., Darlington.
