MONROE - The Monroe Police Department is seeking information about a fire that took place Thursday at Phillips Furniture and Appliance, 905 30th St.

The Monroe Fire Department responded to the store about 2:15 a.m. Oct. 9. The fire was contained about two hours later. Monroe Fire Chief Daryl Rausch said the store received interior smoke damage and extensive damage to the outside.

Rausch suspected arson because a pile of mattresses was ignited to start the fire. Seven fire departments responded to the fire. No one was in the building at the time.

Anyone with information can contact the Monroe Police Department at 329-2400 or Green County Crime Stoppers at (800) 422-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest.
