MONROE — Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and Greater Good Charities have partnered with the Wisconsin Federated Humane Societies in an ambitious effort to transport dogs from the Carolinas to Wisconsin. Multiple animal shelters across Wisconsin, including the Green County Humane Society (GCHS), are eagerly preparing to welcome these dogs into their care and find them loving forever homes.
Scheduled to arrive at approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 in Waukesha, the initiative aims to relocate many dogs from the Carolinas to Wisconsin — nine of which will be coming to GCHS. It is important to note that these dogs are not displaced animals from the recent storm. Rather, they are animals already housed in the southern shelters, awaiting adoption. By transferring them north, the shelters in the Carolinas can free up space to accommodate animals displaced by the storm, providing them with temporary refuge until they can be reunited with their owners.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this life-saving initiative,” said Rachel Horton, Operations Manager at GCHS. “By participating in this coordinated effort, we are not only finding homes for these deserving dogs but also alleviating the burden on shelters in the Carolinas, allowing them to focus on reuniting lost animals with their families.”
GCHS, along with supporting groups like The Wisconsin Federated Humane Societies, are committed to ensuring the successful transition and adoption of these dogs and supporting the ongoing efforts to assist animals affected by the recent natural disaster in the Carolinas.
